The Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County (DOHSt. Johns County) today advised residents of an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity detected within one sentinel chicken population. The single sentinel chicken population, located in the northwest quadrant of St. Johns County, tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). It is important to note that no known human cases of EEE are confirmed at this time. However, the potential for the risk of transmission to humans has increased.
