The purpose of the Swimming Pool and Spa program is to assure that the citizens and visitors of St. Johns County have a safe swimming environment.

Swimming facilities include swimming pools, therapy spas, wading pools as well as special water feature attractions such as splash parks. Once these facilities are permitted and constructed, our certified Environmental Specialists perform inspections prior to issuance of the operating permit.

The following pool facilities are inspected by our staff each year:

  • Proper disinfection of the water
  • Chemical balance of the pool water
  • Filtration equipment properly maintained
  • Safety equipment is maintained on site

Services

As of April 30, 2012, each local Building Department has the sole authority to issue plan approval and construction approval of public swimming pools.  The Department of Health is responsible for issuing operation permits. Owner must apply for and receive a DOH permit before operating the pool. We recommend you contact the Department at least 30 days before the planned opening.

Information on permit and service fees is available by calling the Service Center.
