ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - For the fifth year in a row, St. Johns County is ranked #1 in Florida in Health Outcomes (measures of today’s health) and #1 in Health Factors (measures of tomorrow’s health) by the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in the 2016 County Health Rankings report. This national study highlights the many factors that influence a community’s health. “Health Outcomes” use length of life and quality of life as standard measurements to describe a community’s health. “Health Factors” use various indicators that help determine our future health (i.e. factors that can ultimately make us sick or lead to an early death).

“It is exciting to know that St. Johns County is, once again, the healthiest county in Florida. The phrases ‘It takes a village’ and ‘Health knows no boundaries’ are more true today than ever before,” said Dr. Dawn Allicock, Director and Health Officer of the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County. “The Rankings validate the longstanding efforts of a broad spectrum of partners working together in St. Johns County that continue to make our community a healthier place to live, learn, work, and play.”

“The sustained high ranking of St. Johns County in this report is proof of the high priority the County places on health and human services, parks and recreation, and other services that contribute to the exceptionally high quality of life in our community.” said Mr. Jeb Smith, Chair of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.

“As a high achieving school district, we recognize that many of the health factors utilized in the County Health Rankings are directly tied to education and the care of our children.” said Dr. Joseph Joyner, Superintendent of St. Johns County School District.

“The Rankings illustrate the importance of collaboration between private and public sectors. We are proud of the work and dedication of the men and women of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office who collaborate with the community on a daily basis to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of our community.” said St. Johns County Sheriff Office, Sheriff David Shoar.

The St. Johns County Health Department works in collaboration with local governments, nonprofit organizations, health care facilities, business groups, schools, faith-based organizations and many other stakeholders to improve the health of all people in St. Johns County. The County Health Ranking report complements St. Johns County’s ongoing activities for Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Planning.
