June 27, 2014 is National HIV Testing Day

ST. AUGUSTINE - Saturday, June 27, 2014 is National HIV Testing Day, a day to promote HIV testing among all individuals and to raise awareness about the importance of knowing one's HIV status.

The goal of this observance is to identify those who are living with HIV, confirm the diagnosis, assist with entry into HIV care and services, reduce the number of persons with late HIV diagnosis, and ultimately reduce HIV infection in the U.S.

Across the nation, many agencies including the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County, will join together to talk to those they serve about HIV, about getting testing for HIV, and if positive, about getting treated for HIV disease.

In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County is offeringFREErapid HIV testing onFriday, June 26, 2014at the following location:

10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. St. Francis House
70 Washington Street
St. Augustine, FL 32084

No appointment is required. The rapid HIV test, which requires no more than a finger-stick blood specimen, delivers reliable results in just 20 minutes.
